Definitely Not Chess

This is the art I made for the definetely not meeting jam this year. It was an event happening in itch.io and here's the link of the final game: https://wizard-of-ox.itch.io/definitely-not-chess

The game is about a nymph who is turned into a chess piece by the jealous witch circe, lets say she and medusa are friends now and started a business creating human chess sets for the gods, one transforming the human and the other turning them to stone to finalize the job. If our protagonist doesn't want to become a full chesspiece herself she will have to find a way to get the ingredients to become a human again, and avoid medusa's stare.

This was the initial concept art I created for the game at the start of the jam. I did this to define the style of the game clearly and since the theme of greek mythology was very strong I went with this greek vase black and orange aestethic.

This was the first animation created for the game and it was the player movment.

The second sprite I created was medusa's idle animation and her walking animation.

One of my favorite animations for the game, I love the game over animation, it came out so nice.

For UI I had to create this menu screen and a choose your level screen too!

For the credit's scene I decided to create this image with all the devs, these were also the sprites used for the statues in the game.

This was the first animated cutscene we had, the intro has seven parts with different animated loops that are shown with text, this one is the most complex one I would say and despite taking me a lot of time I feel like the effort was worth it.

This was the second part of the intro cutscenes, even though it is quite simple I still like it a lot, this was the moment I finally defined our protagonist's human form design.

The third animated cutscene, this one was quite simple, if I wasn't on a jam maybe I would have made her move her arm as if mixing the potion.

This is the fourth part of the intro cutscene, despite the animation being simple to make so the timing of the mouth movments and the blinking look more interesting it ended up being one of the longest ones.

The fifith scene in the intro, this one was very simple but again it came out quite cute.

This is the sixth scene in the intro and I just loved how the movment of the beak came out.

This is the last scene of the intro cutscene, of our woodpecker friend saying goodbye to our protagonist.

This was the cutscene you will get if you win the game, and it was the most complicated scene to animate, but it was fun and it came out really good.

Also I decided to include a few level screenshots, you can also play the game in the link in the description!
